I visited Claire House
today for a tour of the hospice and to meet some of the staff. I was
invited by the fund-raising team to see where the money I am raising
will go.
As we were taken
around by Sarah my first impression was how light and comforting it
felt. It wasn't sterile like hospitals are, it had a homely feel.
We were shown the
sensory and hydrotherapy rooms where the children can relax and the
bedrooms. The bedrooms are decorated as you would expect a child's
bedroom to be decorated at home.
As we ventured further
through the hospice we were shown the suite where sick children can
spend their last days with there family. This was the hardest part of
the tour, to see the little beds where children have stopped the
fight against their illnesses was heartbreaking. The hospice isn't
just about the end of life but to give ill children the ability to
enjoy the life they have. As we walked past the photo's of the
children who have passed away I felt more determined than ever to
complete my challenge and raise as much as I can.
The hospice costs
£6,500 a day to run. This is an exceptional amount of money and I
was shocked to be told the operating costs. The hospice runs on the
generosity of others so every pound counts.
Please, if you have not
already sponsored, think about donating. No matter how large or
small, your money is going to an amazing cause.
