I read this morning that doctors have reported to the
government suggesting they should look into putting a 20% tax on fizzy drinks. With
alcohol already being heavily taxed how can they justify putting tax on soft
drinks too?!
I know the country has a problem with obesity but does taxing
drinks make a difference? Should people not make their own decisions about what
they can drink without the government profiting from it? The government needs
to do more to tackle obesity but that starts with education, not punishing
consumers.
If people want to drink alcohol or soft drinks then make
them aware of drinking responsibly. Inform them of the calories and health
risks that binging on them will cause. Both can be enjoyed as part of a
healthy lifestyle.
If the government has their way the milk bars from A Clockwork
Orange won’t seem so far away anymore...
